Art Production Fund, in partnership with The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, is pleased to announce artist-in-residence Jason Adkins. While working in P3Studio, Adkins will share his passion for painting and invite guests to replicate a section of prominent works of art and iconic images. Adkins will offer instruction on painting techniques and color mixing, and after each square has been recreated, the piece will be reassembled on the studio walls and displayed for the duration of the residency. Since each completed square is only a piece of the puzzle, guests will have to return to P3Studio to view the completed, collaborative work.

Adkins’ work has evolved from simple monochromatic landscapes and colorful minimalistic sculptures to his current work - a series of large-scale, colorful and gestural abstractions using a combination of oil and spray paint. These abstractions, with their large brushstrokes and bright colors, are reminiscent of nature and focus on the viewer’s interpretation rather than the literal depiction. They are simultaneously expansive and confining, threatening and inviting. The aggressively applied paint results in a highly textured surface against the simple, desolate background.

Jason Adkins was born in Dover, New Jersey and lives and works in Las Vegas, NV. He received his B.A. at Eckerd College, in St. Petersburg, FL, and his M.F.A. at Claremont Graduate University, in Claremont, CA. He is represented by Western Project in Los Angeles. His work is featured in such collections as the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation in Malibu, CA, and the Phyllis and Ross Escalette Permanent Art Collection at Chapman University, in Orange, CA. Publications include New American Paintings, Art in America, Artweek, ArtCal Zine, and numerous Las Vegas write-ups. His work has appeared in the films Surprise and The Social Network.

The artist-in-residence program at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas represents one component of its larger art program, in which artists create projects that are interactive and participatory, giving guests the opportunity to connect at an authentic and personal level. Developed and curated in partnership with Art Production Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to producing ambitious public art projects, it strives to reach new audiences and expand awareness through contemporary art.
