ANGELICA HICKS ANNOUNCED AS COMMISSIONED ARTIST FOR 2019 HOLIDAY PUBLIC ART PRESENTATION at ROCKEFELLER CENTER®

NEW YORK, NY— New York-based illustrator Angelica Hicks has been selected as the commissioned artist for the 2019 holiday public art presentation at Rockefeller Center. This year’s presentation will feature several activations throughout Rockefeller Center including large-scale printed vinyl murals displayed in indoor and outdoor locations, a free holiday map of Rockefeller Center available to all who work at or visit the Center, and takeaway temporary tattoos all featuring Hick’s celebrated illustrations.

This presentation is the latest iteration of the year-long Art in Focus public art program presented in partnership with the non-profit Art Production Fund. The public mural installation and free holiday map will be on view starting Monday, November 25.

Finding inspiration in the iconic holiday season at Rockefeller Center, Hicks has created a series of illustrations depicting various winter scenes. The famed Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, the ice skating rink, and more will all be portrayed in Hicks’ fun and recognizable style. Known for her playful aesthetic, Hicks’ distinct illustrations combine caricatures with clever witticisms.

Hicks’ work will be seen in thirteen public locations throughout Rockefeller Center including inside 10 Rockefeller Plaza, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, 50 Rockefeller Plaza and the street and concourse levels of 45 Rockefeller Plaza, as well as outside in Rockefeller Plaza. The free holiday map takeaway will be available at the information desk of the 30 Rockefeller Plaza lobby.

ART IN FOCUS is a multidisciplinary program that showcases installations by contemporary artists inspired by the New York City landscape and contemporary life. Artists featured in the series will have their work displayed in a number of unique and unexpected locations throughout Rockefeller Center. Art in Focus is presented in partnership with Art Production Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to commissioning and producing ambitious public art projects, reaching new audiences, and expanding awareness through contemporary art. Past Art in Focus artists include Joana Avillez (Rockefeller Center Holiday Map, December 2018), Hein Koh (Braving the Cold, January-April 2019), Portia Munson (Pink Projects, April-July 2019), LaKela Brown (July-Sept 2019), and Lucy Sparrow th(Lucy’s Delicatessen on 6 , October 2019).

Born and raised in London, ANGELICA HICKS moved to New York City after graduating from University College London with a BA in History of Art. Angelica is the author of Tongue in Chic, a survey of her satirical fashion illustrations. She is the creative imagination behind a new fragrance and cosmetic brand Queendom launched by Puig this year, which features all of her illustrations. Recently she collaborated with The Metropolitan Museum of Art Store on merchandise for the acclaimed CAMP exhibition.
