CYNTHIA TALMADGE ART SUNDAE AT ROCKEFELLER CENTER

On November 8, 2025, artist Cynthia Talmadge led a free, public art-making workshop for local families. Inspired by the artist’s practice, children had the opportunity to create vibrant sand paintings and to place their work within a larger public art installation.

The workshop coincides with Talmadge’s Art in Focus exhibition at Rockefeller Center, which tells the dramatic story of Alan Smithee, a fictional Hollywood director. The site-specific public installation transforms the spaces at Rockefeller Center into immersive tableaux that capture the excitement and theatricality of the season. Building on the legacy of Alan Smithee, a pseudonym historically used by Hollywood directors on films gone wrong, Talmadge reimagines him as a character with a colorful personal life and new ambitions.

This Art Sundae workshop is generously supported by Leatherology.

ART SUNDAE is an ongoing public program providing children a hands-on art-making experience led by a contemporary artist. Designed to be accessible and highlight art’s positive impact across all communities, this free program gives children the opportunity to experiment with various media inspired by an artist's practice. The work that is created in a collaboration between the artist and children then becomes a public art installation that remains on view. Art Sundae was started in 2017 by Art Production Fund and Fort Gansevoort.
