JULIA CHIANG’S ART SUNDAE AT ROCKEFELLER CENTER
Artist Julia Chiang and Art Production Fund hosted a free, public, all-ages interactive art-making workshop on Saturday, September 6 at Rockefeller Center as part of the Art Sundae program. Children created vessels inspired by Chiang’s ceramic practice using Crayola Model Magic, exploring clay-molding techniques and experimenting with bold colors and dynamic designs. The completed sculptures are now displayed at 10 Rockefeller Plaza as part of the public art exhibition.
Chiang's Art in Focus exhibition will be on view at Rockefeller Center through November 7. Known for her carefully constructed, detailed paintings where intricate webs of shapes small and large converge across colorful backgrounds, Chiang brings her stunningly vivid imagery and a selection of ceramic vases to the iconic campus. The site-specific installation blurs the line between intimacy and monumentality, offering a rare opportunity to experience Chiang’s vision on a massive scale.
Art Sundae is an ongoing public program presented by Art Production Fund that provides children a hands-on art-making experience led by a contemporary artist. Designed to be accessible and highlight art’s positive impact across all communities, this free program gives children the opportunity to experiment with various media inspired by an artist's practice. The work that is created in a collaboration between the artist and children then becomes a public art installation that remains on view. Art Sundae was started in 2017 by APF and Fort Gansevoort.
This Art Sundae workshop is generously supported by Leatherology and The Chan Family Foundation.
