SHANTELL MARTIN’S ART SUNDAE AT ROCKEFELLER CENTER
On September 7, 2024, artist SHANTELL MARTIN led a free and open-to-the-public art-making workshop. Inspired by the artist's practice of "drawing on everything," children had the opportunity to create their own works of art on recycled bottles and place their work within a larger public art installation.
The workshop coincided with Shantell's site-specific public installation at Rockefeller Center featuring a diverse selection of work by the British-American artist. Acclaimed for her distinctive line drawings and installations, Martin also works across various mediums, including digital art, fashion, and performance. This comprehensive exhibition celebrates the diversity of Martin’s work while providing an extensive understanding of her practice.
ART SUNDAE is an ongoing public program providing children a hands-on art-making experience led by a contemporary artist. Designed to be accessible and highlight art’s positive impact across all communities, this free program gives children the opportunity to experiment with various media inspired by an artist's practice. The work that is created in a collaboration between the artist and children then becomes a public art installation that remains on view. Art Sundae was started in 2017 by Art Production Fund and Fort Gansevoort.
