TAXIPLASM & RENZO VITALE: P3STUDIO

Press Release

TAXIPLASM & RENZO VITALE

TELL ME YOUR SECRETS

August 14 – September 7, 2014
Hours: Wednesday – Sunday | 6 – 11PM

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, in partnership with Art Production Fund, is pleased to announce artists-in-residence Taxiplasmand Renzo Vitale. A combination of performance art and interactive sound installation, their collaborative work, Tell Me Your Secrets, takes guests on a journey of self-reflection, whereby the verbalization of their secrets brings the performer and space to life.

Tell Me Your Secrets is conceived within two mirrored chambers, one placed in each room of P3Studio.  A single guest will be invited to lie down in one chamber while a performer lies in the other. As the guest speaks, an algorithm translates the speech into vibration patterns, which become shapes that appear in the fluid surrounding each chamber. The performer is activated to move and the lights within to pulsate. Cameras will capture the experience and display it in the windows of P3Studio in real time. It will also stream live online on tellmeyoursecrets.co.

Only when guests choose to enter the chamber and verbalize their secrets does this work ignite. When there is silence, nothing happens. Through this the artists hope to communicate that progression and liberation rely on all participating parties allowing what is buried beneath the surface to be expressed. For some, this quest may take ten minutes. For others, it could last two hours. However long, the artists hope guests will enjoy the purity of their time inside the chamber listening, feeling and studying their own reflection.

A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, Brian Gonzalez (aka Taxiplasm) is a multi-disciplinary video artist. His multi-sensory, interactive experiences and short films have garnered numerous accolades from Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, and Art Basel Miami, among others. In January 2013, he showed a sixteen-screen video installation in Times Square, and he is currently co-directing a feature length documentary with Sean Ono Lennon. His works, often collaborative efforts bringing in performance artists and musicians, are designed to be hyper-conceptual, cathartic experiences.

Renzo Vitale is a New York-based pianist, composer and acoustic engineer. His work often stems from his questioning of human perception and its relation to music and science. Currently a research scholar at the School of Architecture at Pratt Institute and Ph.D. candidate in Acoustics at the Institute of Technical Acoustics in Aachen, Germany, he also holds Master’s degrees in electronic engineering, English and piano. He has won numerous prizes, scholarships and grants for his research on architectural acoustics, psycho acoustics and music communication. In 2012, he released a piano solo album, Zero Space, and in 2013, another album titled Storm.

Both artists actively engage with art movement-driven organization Contaminate® to launch a new market model for immersive experiences, shifting the concept of fine arts’ collection to an innovative level (contaminate.co).

The artist-in-residence program at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas represents one component of its larger art program, in which artists create projects that are interactive and participatory, giving guests the opportunity to connect at an authentic and personal level. Developed and curated in partnership with Art Production Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to producing ambitious public art projects, it strives to reach new audiences and expand awareness through contemporary art.
